- 2007 is being celebrated across the world as the centenary of Scouting. On August 1st 1907, Lieut. General Baden-Powell as he was then, the celebrated ‘Hero of Mafeking’ camped on Brownsea Island, Dorset with 21 boys, the children of his friends, and ‘town boys’ from Poole and Dorset.
