Today we celebrate the baptism of the Lord. In the opening prayer we hear how the Spirit came down to the Lord when He was baptized, like a dove to rest on Him. In Christianity the dove has two symbolic meanings, the Holy Spirit as in this case, and it is also the sign of peace. The two are closely connected, since Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace.

I spent my recent leave camping and diving in the Florida Keys. At one location on a reef, when briefed about the area, we were told to keep our eyes out for a stone plaque. When I found it, the words were no longer legible, but the knowledge of why it was there moved me.
