Section 9 of the Island Government (Ascension) Ordinance stipulates that:

Section 9 of the Island Government (Ascension) Ordinance stipulates that:
(1) A person is eligible to vote in an election under this Ordinance if, but only if, at the date of the election, his name appears in the current Register of Electors created and published in accordance with Regulations made pursuant to section 8(1)(a).
(2) Every person over 18 years of age, resident on Ascension and who pays or who (if he had taxable earnings) would be liable to pay Income Tax under the Income Tax Ordinance, Cap A7, shall be eligible to be included in the Register of Electors:
Provided that a person shall be considered "resident' 'only if he has lived on Ascension for a continuous period of at least 12 months before the date of compilation of the Register;
Provided further that a period or periods of absence shall not constitute a break in the continuity of a period of residence if the total number of days spent on Ascension in the relevant 12 month period exceeds 320.
Regulation 4 of the Registration of Electors Regulations 2008 stipulates that a person who will attain the age of 18 years during the period of validity of any Register of Electors may be included in that Register, but shall not be entitled to vote in any election held before he attains the age of 18 years.
