Ascension : Christmas Angels Thank You Submitted by The Islander (Islander Editors) 12.01.2012 (Article Archived on 26.01.2012)
Christmas Angels would like to thank everyone who supported them during their charity event this year, once again we were overwhelmed with the response from everyone in helping to make this function a memorable and successful event once again.
Special thanks are extended to everyone including the public for their participation and to everyone who worked hard before, during and after the event, in no particular order we would like to give the following persons a special mention for their hard work and dedication.
Michael Hughes for his continued support in allowing us once again to host this function on the US Base and for the many approvals in getting everything organized.
Major Peterson our spokesperson, Cable & Wireless along with Terry and Errol in the wire room for setting up the connections so that the public could talk live to Saint Helena. Mike and his team at Saint FM for helping us to broadcast live with Saint FM.
Melvin, Colin & Shaun for the many carpentry jobs we pounced on them in helping us to for full our dream displays.
Our team of decorators who went above and beyond to make sure that we had what it takes to wow the public and set the winter wonderland display, we really won’t mention all your names and take the risk of forgetting someone, but the team was managed by Michelle and Tina who did a fantastic job of making sure that everyone did what it took to get this display as perfect as it could get , however a special thank you goes to Martin, Stevie, Aaron, Jason, Sebastian, Andrew A, Jim, Pete and Barney , Ryan and Tim who basically showed up every evening to pitch in and help to get everything in order.
To the Staff of the Volcano Club for assisting us in whatever we needed which helped our operation go a lot smoother and to the many other departments on base who contributed their help including the staff at the commissary for allowing us to use some of their property for this event.
A special thank you also to Kevin Simon and his team for all the delicious food cooked for this event, and to all those persons who made the snack trays for everyone.
Santa Claus and Ma Claus came dressed to impress and arrived in Style, distributing all the candies to the kiddies, thank you both Bernard and Shari Park-Hill.
Thanks to Rachael Williams for her dedication in organizing everything in the bar and for the job of premixing everything before the event to ensure a smoother operation.
Our electrician Jim Hennings for the job of making sure we didn’t electrocute ourselves with all the lighting we wanted for the event.
On the day the response was by no means less which was again pleasing. Susan, Stacey, Mersha and Angela stayed at the North Pole to secure the last clump of treasure from the public. Tina, Jolene and Debra along with Ebony who I must say was just perfect for Candy Lane made sure the treats was well distributed, Well done Ebony feedback only suggested that you did a perfect job.
Iona, Jolene and Nicola along with Linda worked splendidly as a team to support the saint Helena cancer charities in the cancer stall.
John, Lisa and Marion worked hard to entice everyone to come and get the last minute tickets at the Massive Raffle Stall.
The Cocktail Bar was operated by a group of angels, Rachael, Tina, Michelle, Anisa, Patricia and Zara we still can’t determine if it was the attraction of the angels or the attraction of how well the bar was decorated that kept everyone at the bar.
Johnny Swain did a great job with his music and should be highly commended for helping to please the crowd throughout the event.
Thanks also to Jim and Barney along with Steve and Pete for the sale of the food again a perfect job guys.
Charmaine and Heather did a great job working casually to get the pubic to support us by buying our lucky program.
And also a special mention must go to Mr and Mrs Nicholas Stevens in Saint Helena who worked hard to sell our tickets, even at times taking their lunch hours to get as many tickets as possible sold.
Thanks are also extended to our camera men – Bret and Herb you surely captured all our memories that we will treasure forever, thank you guys.
And lastly Lucy for doing literally every piece of paperwork for this event, working directly on securing funds for charity, for the coordination and for running the event on the day as smoothly as possible.
Thanks are also extended to Tina Thomas for the shopping of the decorating supplies, Rachael Williams for the bar products and Lucy for shopping for all the prizes.
Thanks are also extended to our man angels who took their role very seriously in a betting competition to see which one could secure the most funds for charity, well done Jason, Aaron and Martin.
Apologies to the general public for a slight misunderstanding with the massive raffle tickets, there were approximately 30 tickets from the last two days from those persons who took tickets at the volcano club these tickets were not placed into the raffle draw, however in all fairness these persons were notified and their monies were returned to them along with an apology letter.
Also the costume parade did not take place as scheduled but all monies that we set aside to pay these winners have now been donated to charity, once again we are absolutely sorry for this event not taking place on the evening.
Congratulations to all of our winners of the event, thank you once again to everyone who once again participated again this year.
If we had to name some of the highlights it would have to be the turning on of the snow machines for the children and the appearance of the man angels who sold alcoholic shots to the public, sending messages to saint Helena via saint fm also proved to be more popular than expected.
