Surprise Visit to Ascension
Probably one of the nicest surprises for a mum was when daughter Cheryl Herne arrived on the last yacht for 2011 - yacht “Sugar Daddy” which arrived at midnight on Friday, 30th December. Cheryl made light signals to her mum Eileen who was on night duty at the Georgetown Hospital.
Having spent Christmas on St Helena with her Nan, family and friends, the crew of four were determined that Cheryl would reach Ascension
and bring in 2012 with her mum, Chelsea Pete, Uncle Errol and other family and friends here.
Although when the guys on board started travelling backwards in a struggle to catch a tuna the day before they reached here, Cheryl did wonder if they would manage to get here in time! Thankfully the tuna escaped back to the bottom of the ocean and the yacht continued on her way here.
The 41 ton yacht “Sugar Daddy” is registered in Las Vegas and will head back to the USA via Fernando de Noronha which is an archipelago of 21 islands and islets in the Atlantic
Ocean, 354 km (220 miles) offshore from the Brazilian coast.
Skipper Morgan Morice (Cheryl’s partner) is assisted by First Mate Cheryl and crew members Ronan Mao and Agnieszka Kurylowicz.
After spending a fantastic time here at Ascension, they all departed on Tuesday, 3 January.
We wish “Sugar Daddy” and her crew fair winds and a safe journey.
