If you were on English Bay, Christmas morning then you may have seen Santa’s Little Hashers  running up and down sprinkling a little magic all around.  Drew wanted to see how hash was laid, he thought you just had to run and flounce it about but hash setting is a serious exercise.  Monkeypotamus had other ideas and spent the morning laying on Power Station beach.

Boxing Day brought the ‘turkey stuffed’ out ready for a run.  Briefing was brief, 4 circle checks, the last one had strange conditions attached.  No time for pondering, the on-on was across the beach bypassing various family gatherings and parties towards the power station.  Crossing rocks and climbing.  At the first circle check, it became apparent the hashmaster missed an opportunity.  Thus the season of goodwill, hands on hips were not incurring forfeits this week.

It was noticed that there was a lack of silly hats this being a Boxing Day hash, at this point, Secret Squirrel pulled his santa hat from a pocket and grimaced.  The WWII gunning placement held fascination for this week’s history lecture.  This hide has two large underground dugouts joined together and roofed with old railway track.

On-on.  Round Triangles, across the beach and to a perfectly private bathing pool.  May have to return here some day, Monkeypotamus couldn’t wait and posed for photos.  Next circle check between the windmills.  On – on past the dive club and following the road home??

Dusty Queen joined us at the beach, but there was no stopping, the hash took us to Guano Jetty (or Wigan Pier) where a circle check was drawn around  a  large empty barrel.  Christmas candysticks for the kids and a sugar boost for those needing a bit of extra for the next leg of the hash.  The home arrow pointed along the pier…  The barrel was for rucksacks and a small box for glasses or keys.  How thoughtful, what wasn’t so thoughtful was the lack of swimwear on some of the hashers!  Volunteers were needed to carry the barrel across the beach, for the rest it was off with the excess and on on!  Bloodsucker, No Brakes, James, Simply Indiscreet and Old golly Waddler lined up on the pier ready for the off.

Soggy hashers reunited on the now empty beach, beer and mince pies, kids swimming, shipwrecks for sundown.  A quieter Bladerunner this week, we never heard his familiar vuvuzela at all!   Hashy Christmas everyone!

Thanks Bloodsucker and crew for a memorable hash.

Next Week:  Mucky Digger
