Ascension : Hash Thrash - Hash No: 1378
Submitted by The Islander (Islander Editors) 22.09.2011 (Article Archived on 06.10.2011)

Under the shadows of the windmills, they waited. Then realised due to the number of social events this weekend – this may be it!

Hare:  Wood ‘n’ Pecker

Hounds: Blade Runner, Sniffy Old Golly Waddler, Mucky Digger and  Mucky Princess.

Under the shadows of the windmills, they waited.  Then realised due to the number of social events this weekend – this may be it!  This week the hash was to be a ‘hashless hash’ in parts.  Wood ‘n’ Pecker explained we would be looking for arrows, twisted branches and cairns between the different circle checks.  Mucky Princess was the only one brave enough to ask ‘what’s the point of a hash without hash?’  Thanks!  Torches gave clues of one of the hazards, nightfall?

The on-on round the back of the yard, looking for arrows certainly slowed Blade Runner down.  Mucky Princess eventually decided she would join and the hunt began.  Up and up between Dark Crater and command hill.  Blade Runner saw arrows naturally occurring and kept running off up the wrong peak.  A circle check with a vista of the runway and a chance for the short ones to catch up..The descent was much trickier; rocks are hidden in the tall grass making slow and careful moves.  As for those arrows, like looking for a stick in a hay field at this point!  The next circle check was on a small peak.  This provided the first soundings of the vuvuzela towards the runway.  Poor mucky princess wasn’t climbing in fear of a back arrow but no hash meant no arrows!  The plateaux of lava flow was much easier, though there are some wobbly rocks to catch one out!  Mucky Digger was desperate to see the arrow made of rabbit poo, Blade Runner couldn’t quite believe how it got there, but it certainly wasn’t the rabbit.

From here, there were small cairns to lead the way.  Sniffy took the lead, either he could expertly spot the next sculpture of rocks from 20 paces or he knew where we were heading.  To the Command Hill caves.  Quite a path has been worn through the grass to the caves lately.  The Mucky pair fastened head torches on and bravely led the way, Blade Runner unearthed his miner’s hat complete with lights for the venture.  Sniffy decided to wait at the entrance and watch the bags.

The dragon couldn’t be found in the heat of the cave, Blade Runner and Mucky Digger searched every dark cranny.  Rabbit bones were evident so he’d obviously had breakfast and  it’s widely known he likes children for supper!  A quick on-on.

Over the top and small blobs of that rare hash put us on trail.   A well preserved ‘MJA  1991  SKIPPY’ was found in the mud, this cavern was a great place for echo testing, did anyone else hear Blade runner’s vuvuzela?   From the valley between command Hill and Dark Crater the home arrow could be seen beneath us.  The one with all the questions couldn’t understand why the trail led us up yet the way was obviously down.  Mucky Princess was determined to complete the ‘quick’ way on her bottom whilst others followed the trail the safer way down.  Mucky Princess’s independence left her with a few scratches and the wisdom that the hound knows best!

Home and he kegs open.  Very little hash business to sort but the skills of eating squashed snowballs without covering oneself in marshmallow can be practised another week.  Thanks Wood ‘n’ Pecker for demonstrating methods of a hashless hash.
