Vehicle Licence and Insurance

In recent weeks we have noted that some motorists have not advised our licensing section of the renewal of their vehicles insurance policies.  We would advise owners to contact us and provide the necessary proof so as our records can be updated.  This will save any inconvenience and anxiety when a Police Officer asks you to produce your policy within five days.  A summary of the licensing process is given below, for more information please contact us during normal office hours.

All vehicles that are to be used on a road must be licensed and insured.  The driver must also have a valid driver’s license to drive the class or description of vehicle.

Insurance: There are two insurance providers on island; they are Solomon & Company and Caribbean Alliance.  However a vehicle can be insured with any recognised insurance company.

Registration: All vehicles must be registered and have a registration ‘A’ number.  These numbers are not personally owned and if not in use can be recalled.

Road License: A vehicle needs to pass an MOT test before a Road License may be issued.  You can make arrangements with any of the appointed Vehicle Examiners who are Mr Jason Augustus U.S.Base, Brian Essex, Peter Francis of Two Boats, Andrew Piek, David Richards of Travellers Hill, Donavan Thomas,  Mark Thomas, and Justin Wade of Georgetown.  A road license is valid for a period of 12 months and may be obtained 3 months prior to the expiry date.

As part of our customer service our licensing office currently sends out reminders to drivers and owners of vehicles of the expiry dates of their license.  Remember you should not be reliant on the reminder; the onus is on the driver/owner to ensure they do not break the law by either driving or using a motor vehicle unlawfully.

Now for other news.

We are pleased to welcome Father Chris Brown as our Force Chaplin.

Until next time Keep Safe
