Finally, the hounds all met at the start at North East Bay beach hut – half the hounds having detoured to the Ariane Tracking Station - with party hats a plenty.
The hounds were then advised that the hash had been set that morning in the pouring rain with one hound having a hangover. We were assured it would not therefore be a long or arduous hash and everyone would have plenty of time to enjoy the birthday celebrations for Goat Chaser après hash. Notification of three circle checks, usual hazards of large and loose rocks and we were off.
The on on took us up across the rocks and down towards the shoreline across a small beach and towards the “other” NE Bay beach hut where we found the first circle check.
After a short rest to wait for the stragglers (Buzz Lightyear was “on strike” and walking very slowly as the promised sweets had been forgotten and left at home!) the on on headed along the coastline and then up over the rocks to the second circle check with cat calls and shouts from behind – Aaah Stop It, Not Pinky Boo, Marlene, Twice a Night, Barney and Louise and Skye the dog having arrived late for the start had finally caught up. Blade Runner and Danger Mouse who had started at the Ariane Station had also dropped into the hash en route.
The on on continued past the Ariane Station (strange feeling of déjà vue for many) and then up the hill to the third circle check providing a great view of the beach and the blow hole, which wasn’t blowing. The younger members of the hash had great fun throwing rocks and stones down the beach below, the obligatory photos were taken and the hounds headed homewards along the road.
After hash business of naming Andy – Major Spud and Dennis – Chilli Dog Longhorns and Happy Birthday was sang to Goat Chaser, the children disappeared to play on the beach and the adults had a leisurely drink or two.
The Hounds celebrated Goat Chaser’s birthday in style and he was heard to mutter “this was the best party ever”. Thanks for all the contributions to the party food.
