Ascension Island Base is pleased to announce that the Travellers Hill Swimming Pool has re-opened. Last weekend, the doors opened for the first time in over 4 months and more than 100 military and civilian personnel were, at last, able to enjoy this fantastic facility. Previously, the pool had been closed after public-funding was cut as part of a series of savings measures. However, the new Base Commander, Wing Commander Rod Duguid, explored other options, as the pool is still needed as an Emergency Water Storage Facility for Fire Fighting in the event of a serious fire in Travellers Hill. By opening it to the public, Entrance Fees and Membership Fees, subsidised by other RAF Welfare Funding, will ensure it remains open for the foreseeable future.

Please do all that you can to support this fantastic facility; the more funding we can raise, the better the facility will be! An order is being placed this week for new Swimming Pool furniture and to replace ageing emergency equipment. For all the details you require to assist in choosing the Membership that best suits your needs, please see the poster below. When you have decided, please go to the Base HQ Cashier, at the Airhead, to select and pay your Membership. You will then be directed to the adjacent Base Medical Centre where you will receive your shiny new membership card. For those that are still undecided, why not either pay at the gate (£2 per session) or take advantage of a 1 month trial membership (£10 – refundable if 6 or 12 month membership is later purchased).

The initial opening times are based on previous usage and availability of qualified lifeguards. This will of course be reviewed, as the Club Committee intend to listen to the views and suggestions of all Club Members, to meet the needs, where possible, of the majority.

See you at the pool!!!
