FISHING COMPETITION
Seven boats with 28 fishermen taking part in “Noddy’s Boat Fishing Competition” left the pierhead steps at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday 22nd November 09. The return to the steps at 11:30 was very successful with each boat drifting in with tuna, wahoo and amberjacks. Once the weighing in by Russell and recording by Kirsty had commenced the fishermen had the fish skinned and cut into steaks ready for selling, much to the excited spectators who had not seen so many fish lying about at the pierhead in a long while. No fish was left which was good news for the Guides fund. The day ended here at 2 p.m. once the bar had been officially closed.
The winners of the fishing competition were:-
1st place 68lb Wahoo – Jeremy Constantine – Woback skippered by Justin Wade
2nd place 52lb Wahoo – Chris “Channel” Henry – Range Rider
3rd place 49lb Wahoo – Pedro “Feeney” Henry – Range Rider
1st place 59lb Tuna – Robert Henry – Shannon-Rae skippered by Sam Arms
2nd place 52lb Tuna – Pedro “Feeney” Henry – Range Rider
3rd place 40lb Tuna – Alan – Starfish skippered by Kimbo
Heaviest fish of the day:- 68lb Wahoo - Jeremy Constantine – Woback
By 6 p.m. fires were blazing with pans full of fish cooking for the fish fry. Sorry about the delay but not everything can go to plan at some stage, we would not be human if this was the case!!! But, by the long queue it proved it was worth the wait.
