Parable of the gold coins

Jesus is telling the story to the people about the man who was going to a country far away. Before he left he called his servants and put them in charge of his property. He gave to each one according to his ability; to one he gave five thousand coins, to another two thousand and to another one thousand.

The one who had received five thousand coins invested his money and earned another five thousand. In the same way the servant who had received two thousand coins earned another two thousand.  But the servant who had received one thousand coins went off, dug a hole in the ground and  buried his master’s money.

When the Master returned the servant who had received five thousand coins came and handed over the other five thousand he had earned, likewise the one who had received two thousand handed over another two thousand. The servant who received the one thousand coins was taken away from him as he did not invest the money.

This story reminds us that God has given all of us talents according to our ability but the important question is, are we making the best use of our time and the talents in serving God completely and those around us?

Have a pleasant week.

Canon Clive
