Submitted by The Islander (Cheryl Anthony) 20.08.2009 (Article Archived on 03.09.2009)

Sunday 9th August, in the vicinity of Garden Cottage, Green Mountain the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit’s Fun Day took place, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday 9th August, in the vicinity of Garden Cottage, Green Mountain the 1st Ascension Girlguiding Unit’s Fun Day took place, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  This was yet another successful event with just on 130 people joining the girls and Leaders in an afternoon of fun, food and drink.  There were miscellaneous stalls, Feeding of lumpy custard blind folded, tug-of-war, games and races galore and I’m sure a few of the Twister Game participants are still a little twisted since they took part!!!  The Duncan sisters and nieces with their families sure made the afternoon went with a swing and got everybody into the mood of the races.

There was a bar of beer and soft drinks and mixed music by Freddy.  On sale was soup which was made on the open fire by Karen (Joe) Thomas who is here on holiday and volunteered to give us a helping hand.  In addition to this was hot dog and onion on roll, fishcake on roll, tea, coffee, popcorn, cakes, sandwiches and savoury.

Noddy, entertained everyone and even at some stage was auctioning the children off but no money was received!!!  I don’t really think many could understand his language but he made everyone happy!!
The day started off lovely and sunny and then by 5:15 it drizzled with rain for 10 minutes and nothing more.  So to top it we had a splendid afternoon.

WINNERS OF THE DAY WERE:-
