Friday`s RMS will have a very special passenger leaving Ascension this week – Shirley Francis is finally retiring after many years living and working on Ascension.

Shirley has worked over the years for CBFASI, AIS and in recent times has been the face of Obsidian for visitors to the island.

Many guests remember Shirley for her friendly smile and nature and for a level of care more like that of a mother than an employee.

Shirley has been a very jealous guardian of the Hotel`s reputation and has certainly kept us all at Obsidian on our toes should standards ever slip – I don`t think we`ll really realize just how much we miss her until she`s gone.

We all wish Shirley the very best for a much deserved retirement although somehow I can`t see her putting her feet up just yet!
