Ascension : Conservation Weekly

It has been a busy week with the Conservation Department, visitors from all over, St Helena, UK, Falklands, South Georgia etc,

attended the South Atlantic Invasive Species Regional Conference, which was a successful event, we got to show our visitors around on the Island and the projects we have ongoing. Training for the Fieldworkers for the Invasive Species Project, training that took place was for Pesticide, Chainsaw and Strimmer, etc. All trainees passed with flying colours.

 

We helped out with the annual Ascension Day Fair, doing our Conservation Colouring Competition and Guessing the Endemics, well done to all who had a go, and also well done to the winners:

 

Colouring Competition

1st Place           3-5 Years         Kirsten Augustus

2nd Place          3-5 Years         Jeremy Thomas

 

1st Place           5-7 Years         Nyreeka Lawrence

2nd Place          5-7 Years         Latisha Williams

 

1st Place           7-10 Years       Adam Fowler

CAT OWNERS:  If you own a cat on Ascension, it is your responsibility to look after it.  This means that you must make sure that your cat wears a collar at all times and you must notify the Conservation Dept. as soon as your cat goes missing.  You should also let us know if you are leaving the island for holiday (or permanently) and who will be looking after your cat during your absence.  Thank you!

 

All pet cats on Ascension are to be registered, register forms were sent out to all owners if you did not received one, please contact Raymond Benjamin at Conservation Tel. 6359
