Submitted by The Islander (Islander Internet Editor) 19.03.2009 (Article Archived on 02.04.2009)

YOUTH GROUPS OF ASCENSION MEETS THE GOVERNER AND MRS GURR

HAPPENINGS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS IN

1ST ASCENSION GIRLGUIDING UNITS

VISIT OF GOVERNOR AND MRS GURR

Tuesday, 3rd March Two Boats Club was “Raining Children and Adults”!!  It was a day that had been decided upon when Mrs. Gurr met with 1st Ascension

Girlguiding units in January.  Our plans were as St.Helena does not have white sandy beaches having a BBQ at English Bay with all the Colour Parties in attendance would be a great idea.

It so happens it never rains on Ascension but every time something is planned it does just that and in a big way. Although the venue was changed at such short notice everyone turned up in full spirit.  Mrs. Linda Yon (Asst. Commissioner) welcomed Guests and troops and then a lovely spread of nuggets, sausages, burgers, and side salads was enjoyed by all. Cake and biscuits, also was served as a “dessert”.  To conclude our Get-together photographs were taken with the full Colour Parties and Guests.

I would like to thank:-

H.H. The Administrator, Claudia and Amanda, H.E. The Governor and Mrs. Gurr our guests for joining us;

Delphia for the Use of Two Boats Club;

Phyllis Corker for Cooking the BBQ;

Leaders and Asst. Commissioner, Parents and Friends for your help before, during and after;

And also to the children for coming along and having a good time, although the Scouts did look just a little bit tired from their camp.

Cheryl
