Ascension : Brownies Make Root Beer

A couple of weeks ago, the girls of the 1st Ascension Brownies has loads of fun making root beer soda pop with the help of Mr. Jim Wickham.
A couple of weeks ago, the girls of the 1st Ascension Brownies has loads of fun making root beer soda pop with the help of Mr. Jim Wickham. Mr. Wickham brought all the supplies to Woodsy Owl’s house where we proceeded to make the root beer and make quite a mess all at once!
Mr. Wickham explained that root beer comes from the sassafras bark. Root beer is what you hear about in the old Westerns when they talk about “sasparilla”!
The girls shook up the concentrate, added the sugar (a lot of it!!), mixed in the yeast and stirred the mixture until it was ready to be bottled. Then they bottled it by themselves and capped it with Mr. Wickham’s help.
Although it has to sit for a while to “fizz”, the Brownies made root beer floats with chocolate ice cream and store bought root beer. This week, we’ll find out if their root beer tastes as good – or better!
