Well, Pete and Jill have wasted no time in getting down to work. They have lots of supplies to help preserve our archival material in the proper way.
They also have lots of ideas to improve the storage and preservation of our collections. Thank goodness they also have the energy to carry out the hard work it will take to get it all done!! We are very grateful to have Pete & Jill here to help us with all their skills, knowledge and determination!
We had a moving work party last Wednesday to get some of the supplies, boxes, furniture and other materials moved to their new homes. Thanks to Steve, Gene, Elaine, Andrea and Marc for helping out.
Pete & Jill will be keeping everyone informed of their progress in articles here in the Islander. Keep an eye out for these. I’m sure they will be both interesting and informative!
Work is progressing on a number of other projects as well. We are a busy bunch, with lots of enthusiasm. If you want to join us, please drop by!
The Heritage Society has a number of interesting books, and other merchandise, including tee shirts in adult and children’s sizes available. These all make excellent Christmas presents for those hard to buy for folks on your list! Drop by on a Saturday morning, and get a start on your Christmas shopping!

Well, its lovely to be back “home” in Ascension. We have only been here a few days but it doesn’t seem as though we have been away.
Shari and her band of merry people have really taken the museum forward in such a short time, but there is so much still to be achieved
As Shari has mentioned previously, we have started sorting out all the photographs and documents in the archives. These range from farm records from the 1840’s and photographs from the 1890’s, right up until the present day.
Our project is to make a database of all items – documents and photographs – and to photograph and preserve those that are at risk of deterioration due to heat, humidity and insect infestation. This is an enormous task and we would love any help from anybody and everybody, on and off the island. We desperately need help with the following:-
i) sorting photographs and documents by subject
ii) cataloguing onto computer
iii) identification of people and places in photographs
iv) preserving and conserving old documents etc.
Anyone who is willing to give any assistance please contact us either at the Gallery on 6655 or at home on 6824. We would so grateful for your help in what is going to be an interesting but mammoth task over the next six months.
