Everyone managed to find their way down the right track to the old Exile’s Club at Catherine Point on Saturday afternoon.  It was the starting point for this week’s hash.  It looked as if the rain was done for the day, but no one’s ever sure about that on Ascension lately!  The usual hazards were announced, and we were told that there would be some interesting bar checks along the way.   Then it was on-on up the track, over some lava rocks, and on to the first circle check.

Across the Queen’s Highway, and off into some more lava fields.  Before long we came upon some interesting archeological specimens, old trucks, wooden debris and other things that for some warranted a closer look.  As 100 Watt and two Cocks investigated, covetous eyes were cast upon the finds by some of the Heritage folks!

The hares called us away from our archeological dig and it was on-on across the fields.  Along the way, as we closed in on the other road, there was a bit of a history lesson about the first US WWII army camps in the area.  About this time, we came upon a very strange bar check.  Rather than a bar, it was shaped like a “U”, with a tail no less!  While most looked around in confusion, a few brave souls headed off in all sorts of directions looking for the correct trail.  Switch Hitter obviously needs a lesson in the meaning of the three blobs of hash in a triangular pattern.  Rather than realize this meant a false trail, he tried to herd all the hounds in his direction.  Guess he just didn’t want to be lost alone!

While Fugitive called us all in his direction, Uncle Fester lamented that the hounds had missed his well-laid back arrow!  At the next circle check, Woodpecker decided that the Needles Tank required a bit of an inspection and was seen climbing over the roof! Brave lad……

Next it was across the road, up a bit of another embankment, and winding our way back to the track to the guns on Cross Hill.  The FRBs disappeared in the dust, while the WATs had a nice stroll.  At the guns, all enjoyed the view, until the on-on was called.  Here it was straight down the steep hill (beware of the big hole in the ground!).  A few of the gentlemen helped the ladies down the last bit of steep bit.  Then it was a nice stroll to the Exile’s Club, down past the museum, along the pipeline, and across the beach to the starting point!

A nice array of goodies were laid out and eagerly devoured by the hungry hashers.  The little ones had held their own hash around the beach and rocks and were having a grand time.  Pallets arrived courtesy of Stinky Fingers and the bonfire was soon blazing.  As the big, red sun went down on another beautiful Ascension day, all watched in eager anticipation for the famous “green flash” which was seen by many, although Old Gollywoddler and a few others disagreed that the phenomenon had actually been seen by anyone!

A good hash, Fugitive and Uncle Fester!

Next Week:  The Residency, rain or shine, no kiddies hash (they can play on a mountain path while the rest of us are getting dragged who knows where!)

Hare:  I’m Easy – her last hash on Ascension so a word to the wise – be afraid, be very afraid!!!
