Ascension : PUBLIC NOTICE - Increase in Duty: Tobacco Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 22.05.2008 (Article Archived on 05.06.2008)
On 13 March 2007, as part of the formal budget process, the Governor agreed a change in the customs tariff for duty on tobacco products to increase by 100% over a two year period.
The first change was introduced during the 2007/2008 financial year.
The second increase is now due and in view of this customs duty on tobacco products will increase with effect from 1 June 2008 as detailed below;

In context, this will have the direct effect of increasing the duty on a packet of 20 cigarettes by a further 40p per packet of 20 cigarettes.
This change directly supports recommendations from the Ascension Island Government medical and health service review.
Alcohol
Duty on alcohol remains the same.
Fuel
Duty on fuel remains the same.
