Ascension : News From St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 22.05.2008 (Article Archived on 05.06.2008)

Shortly after we arrived in this Parish, Jenny and I met up with a man who had worked on Ascension for a number of years.

He told us that when he first came here, apart from Green Mountain, there was very little vegetation elsewhere .

As we look around the Island today one cannot help but notice the change that is taking place .  Vegetation is beginning to establish itself further afield .  Ascension is beginning to look green and beautiful.

We know that God  loves beauty and this is what he is providing us with on our little Island for which we are most grateful for.

 .

I would like to share with you this week a prayer of thanksgiving:

Creator, God, we praise you for the universe you made,

for the wonder of its size and complexity,

For the beauties of earth and sky,

                                the stillness of mountains,

                                the song of a bird,

the red and gold of sunrise and sunset,

the different greens of grass and leaf,

the scent of earth after rain,

the chuckle of a happy child,

                                the warmth of a handclasp.

O God, how you enjoy creating!

Help us to rejoice with you.

Have a pleasant and enjoyable week.

Canon Clive
