Governor Gurr makes Presentations on behalf of the Falkland Islands Government
On behalf of the Falkland Islands Government, Governor Gurr has presented Liberation Coins and Certificates to 10 St Helenians. The awardees were part of the team who travelled to the Falkland Islands with the old RMS ‘St Helena’ during the Falkland Island’s conflict
Persons receiving medals were Donald Bowers, Patrick Francis, William George, Frederick Green, Maureen Jonas, Eric Mittens, Patrick Thomas, Brenda Williams, Lionel Williams and Patrick Williams.
The presentation was made on Friday 11 April in the Drawing Room at Plantation House where awardees enjoyed afternoon tea with Governor and Mrs Gurr.
Governor Gurr was proud to present the awards and considered it fitting since His Excellency has previously worked on the Falkland Islands as the Chief Executive.
During tea, Governor and Mrs Gurr took the opportunity to present a number of questions to the St Helenian team. This allowed the awardees to share their stories about how they felt when travelling to the Falklands and the role they had to play.
The awards on Friday were in addition to the presentations of Certificates and Badges of Honour, which were made by Governor Michael Clancy at the Queen’s Birthday Party at Plantation House last year.
Similar presentations were also made at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office last year at a reception organised by Kedell Worboys, St Helena Government UK Representative. Here presentations were made to members of the team who are resident in the UK.
