Ascension : News From St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 26.03.2008 (Article Archived on 09.04.2008)

It was a pleasure to welcome Father Peter to preach at our Divine Service on Easter Sunday and other visitors who joined us as well.

The Gospel reading for Easter Sunday  (St. John:  chapter 20 verses 1 – 9).   In verse 8 we are told  “The disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed.”

There are occasions when we find it difficult to accept something we have been told and need to be convinced of its authenticity.  In the case of the disciple it only took the open tomb and the empty grave clothes to convince him that Jesus had risen.  Having seen and believed, his mission was to go and spread the good news. We are called today to carry on with this mission.

Have a pleasant week.

Canon Clive
