My father, Clifford Jones, worked for Cable and Wireless and was the chief engineer looking after the equipment on the island. I had a wonderful childhood on the island. We left in the 1960's and it has always been my dream to return one day. That dream will come true on 23rd April this year as I return to Ascension with my husband and parents as a celebration of my 50th birthday. I look forward to coming to ST. Mary's church on SUNDAY 27TH (My 50th Birthday) and thanking God for bringing me back. My husband, George Winter is a professional artist and he will be recording our visit in paintings. If there is anyone who would take him out on a boat he would like to paint the island from the sea's perspective. I realise it is highly unlikely but if there is anyone on the island who would remember us from that time itwould be great to meet you.
This is very silly. I used to live in ascension at the age of 3 so sadly I dont remember anything about it. This week I went to give blood and had to go through lots of boring history about myself. The nurse wanted to know where about Ascension was and I didnt know which I thought was terrible. I had lived there but I didnt know where it was!! I decided to look it up in the atlas but my eye's are not what they were when I was younger so I couldnt see AscenionIsland in the index!! Not to be defeated I thought I'll look it up on the internet and this is what i found! So what can you tell me? I now live in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, so maybe we could excahange info! At present we are having the worst weather ever and its just awful! FFFFreezing!
