Ascension : PADDY
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 27.03.2008 (Article Archived on 10.04.2008)

“Paddy” finally left us last week at the grand old age of 106 (in dog years). He arrived on Ascension as a 14 week old puppy back in 1993 and soon became known to most Island residents as he was seen here there and everywhere.

With his love of the sea he soon settled into a daily routine of morning swims at the pierhead (tea with the pierhead guys), lunch at the Galley followed by afternoon tea at the MT garage interrupted by swims in the turtle ponds!
He particularly liked "working the American freighter" as he really enjoyed the base box lunches!

More "Gold Fish" than Golden Retriever, he was at his happiest in the sea and regularly would swim Georgetown to Comfortless and back again behind the scout canoes, or out and around the small boat anchorages where the pierhead guys or boat owners might be working.

As a big gentle soul, he was great with kids and with his own Scout scarf soon became the Scout Group mascot and everyone’s dog.

Having already appeared on several Ascension websites, many visitors to the Island would ask about him and greet him in the street - he was better known than the human beings!

A friend to all and my best mate of 15 years he is and will be sorely
missed.
