Ascension : AISPCA FUND RAISER Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 27.03.2008 (Article Archived on 10.04.2008)
Last Wednesday some 50 people attended a special evening at Tasty Tucker to raise awareness of and funds for, the Ascension Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
This is the Society’s 10th anniversary and therefore a perfect time for such an event. It was formed in 1998 to provide assistance and advice to the island pet owners. Over the years we have had huge support from the Hospital and Dental staff, the US Base Clinic, Chipping Norton Veterinary Hospital, in UK, ANRD on St Helena and the Falkland Island Government Veterinary Service. It is due to these agencies that the society has been able to continue and offer the level of care that it has.
The AISPCA has never charged for its services only for any drugs/medications used or prescribed. Unfortunately the low number of pets on the island (especially post feral cat eradication) means that it has become almost impossible to recoup the outlay for treatments. Thus the need to raise some funds.
Huge thanks to Natalie for offering an evening’s profits, the Tasty Tucker staff for all of their hard work, Mick Holland for his generous donation, Dover and Meriel for their enthusiastic bidding and to all who came to eat, drink and be merry in the name of charity! I must also thank those good hearted people who, although they couldn’t make it on the night, still contributed.
Last but certainly not least a massive thanks to the lovely people at Serco Security for their kind offer of a more than generous donation.
The overall amount raised so far is, £700 and will go a long way to off-setting this year’s bills.
On behalf of the AISPCA and all of the animals in its care....
THANK YOU ! Caz Yon
