Ascension : Public Notice - Reflections Coffee Shop, Georgetown Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 20.03.2008 (Article Archived on 03.04.2008)
As the draft Land and Business Policy will likely come into effect in April, I am now able to seek expressions of interest from persons living and working on Ascension to establish and operate a coffee shop/café-type business

As the draft Land and Business Policy will likely come into effect in April, I am now able to seek expressions of interest from persons living and working on Ascension to establish and operate a coffee shop/café-type business in the AIG building which was formerly known as “Reflections”. Persons who have “visitor” status on Ascension may not apply.
Interested persons should submit applications in writing to me by 18 April. As will be required in the Land and Business Policy, this should be accompanied by a Business Plan which should describe the proposed business and should detail proposed hours of opening, method of operation, staffing, estimated financial investment and expectations. A note containing detailed advice on writing a Business Plan can be obtained from Administration Department.
Under the terms of the Land and Business Policy, a Land Occupancy Permit for the building will be issued to the successful applicant valid until end contract date of the applicant (or applicant’s spouse whichever is appropriate) and renewable if contract is renewed. An annual fee of £1656 (ie £138 per month) will be charged for the Permit, plus Property Tax of £265 per annum (ie £22.08 per month). Utilities and routine building maintenance costs will be the responsibility of the business operator.
No residential accommodation will be provided in connection with the business and the building itself may not be used, wholly or in part, as residential accommodation.
All applications will be considered and a decision will be made by 30 April to enable the successful applicant to be issued with a Land Occupancy Permit to take effect from 1 May, subject to the Land and Business Policy coming into effect beforehand.
Requests for clarification regarding this Notice should be addressed to the Administration Department of Ascension Island Government.
