Ascension : New's From St. Mary's
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 22.11.2007 (Article Archived on 06.12.2007)

If you had been in the area of St. Mary’s earlier this week you will have noticed that St. Mary’s Church is being given a face lift. This is good news and better still this work it will not affect our church services.

Dear All,

If you had been in the area of St. Mary’s  earlier this week you will have noticed that St. Mary’s Church is being given a face lift.  This is good news and better still this work it will not affect our church services.

What else has been happening in the Parish apart from a wedding, two Baptisms and Memorial Services for November?

The Parochial Church Council had a very successful meeting on Monday 5 but I cannot say the same for the meeting on Thursday 8 when only one person turned up. The purpose of Thursday’s meeting was to form a Committee for the Ascension Day Fair next year.

I have checked some of the past records and doubtedly the Ascension Day Fair has made a valuable financial  contribution over the years.  St. Mary’s is a self-supporting Parish and we must try, with your help, to keep this annual fund raiser going for the Parish.  Also worthy of note is the fact that we had a larger number of people serving on the Committee made up of representatives from the various organisations.

Another meeting is planned for Monday 3 December in the Children’s Church at 7.30 pm and trust that it will be more successful this time round.  The general idea of having a committee in place early is to work up a programme of events leading up to the day of the Fair.  If you can help in any way please get in touch with me or better still see you at the meeting.

Have a pleasant and enjoyable week.

Canon Clive
