Ascension : News from St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 18.10.2007 (Article Archived on 01.11.2007)

Dear Friends, Jenny and I had an enjoyable holiday and it is good to be back on Ascension Island again.

First, I  wish to express  my   thanks and appreciation to our Lay Minister, Mervyn Isaac, for conducting the services on the three Sundays I was away in the United Kingdom and to every- one else who assisted him in any way.

Secondly, I am most grateful to Johnny and the other members of the band who have continued with their practices for the Harvest Festival at the end of this month.  I am very pleased that a couple of young people are helping out
in the band as well.

The good thing about expressing our thanks in this way is that it reminds us how much we owe to others.  And of course it is good for the other person as well as it makes them feel appreciated.

In the story of the ten men who were cured of leprosy by Jesus we are told only one man returned to thank him.  What happened to the other nine? perhaps they were too  busy meeting up with their families and friends they had not seen for sometime and gave no thought of going back to say thank you to the one who had cured them and made this reunion possible.  Whenever we seek God's help let us not forget how important it is to show our gratitude and to thank him for all he does for us.

ANOTHER LAY MINSTER FOR ST. MARY'S

During Divine Service on Sunday Morning Clarence Roberts was given his Lay Minister's license for St. Mary's Parish .

Please remember Clarence and his family in your prayers as he takes this important step in the work of the Church.

With love and prayers.

Canon Clive.
