Ascension : Rock Removal Operation - Green Mountain
Submitted by The Islander (Ascension Island Government) 27.09.2007 (Article Archived on 11.10.2007)

Last Monday, 17th September, a team from the Public Services Section carried out a rock removal operation at Green Mountain.

The huge boulder, situated just above the car park on the residency road had been deemed unsafe and needed to be removed.

Due to the boulder being positioned behind another rock mount, it was decided the best way to remove it was to wrap several iron chains around it as support lines and begin removing all the surrounding rocks.

The final step was to use an iron bar to prise the boulder out, and allow it to roll into the car park below.

The operation was a success.
