Ascension : Join Two Boats School In Jeans For Genes Day Friday 5th October
Submitted by The Islander (Soo Matthews) 27.09.2007 (Article Archived on 11.10.2007)

Two Boats School would like to encourage the whole island to join in again for Jeans for Genes Day 2007.

What is Jeans for Genes?

It's fun, it's simple, it's a great cause! Jeans for Genes is a national appeal where everyone across the UK is asked to throw out the usual dress rules, jump into their jeans and donate £1 schools / £2 companies to help children with genetic disorders.

The charity’s aim is to raise £4 million, proceeds will help ten national charities, including Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, SPARKS and WellChild to help fund vital genetic research to help alleviate and cure childhood genetic disorders.

Dress to Impress!

This year we would like to ask you to ‘dress to impress’ when you jump into your jeans and help us raise £4 million to support children with genetic disorders. Everyone loves dressing up in jeans and this year we all have the chance to go for a bit of glitz, glamour, bling and bravado!

Who does Jeans for Genes help?

Jeans for Genes, organised by four national charities, raises funds for research into serious and often life-threatening genetic disorders affecting thousands of children Funds also provide laboratory equipment and facilities, as well as valuable advice and support for families.

Why do we need to raise funds?

In the UK, one baby in every 33 is born with a genetic disorder or birth defect... that’s one born every 30 minutes whose life could be affected. There are over 4,000 recognised genetic disorders, some of which have no current treatment. Pioneering research to develop such treatments is being funded through Jeans for Genes and is bringing great hope to families.

Why should you join in?

Whether you are joining in at work, at school, at nursery or as an individual, Jeans for Genes is great fun. Genes affect us all, and a small donation from you, your friends and colleagues can make an enormous difference.

What do you have to do?

There are many ways to make an impression on Jeans for Genes Day, you could simply wear your jeans and donate £1 schools / £2 companies, or you could don your denims and organise a fundraising event.

Jeans for Genes Day 2007 will be held on Friday 5th October, but if you can't make this date simply pick another – you can hold your fundraising activity on any day of the year!

For more details please see www.jeansforgenes.com

We hope you all join in and support this worth while cause.  Last year a total of £334 was raised – let’s see if we can beat that this year!
