Ascension : From St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 29.03.2007 (Article Archived on 12.04.2007)

Dear All, You are invited to join us for the procession and the Mass this coming Sunday when our thoughts will be focused on the events surrounding that first Palm Sunday.

It will be helpful if we try and picture in our minds the scene.  First we will see a slow winding procession making its way into Jerusalem.  There is one significant difference  in this procession as  there are no placards or poles, no captions, no demands for changes in the wage structure, in fact there are no demands of any kind as one would see in a procession of this kind.  Secondly, we see an enthusiastic crowd spreading their cloaks on the ground and waving palm branches and drawing attention to that one person, Jesus, riding on a donkey into Jerusalem and the people proclaiming him as the king.  There is great rejoicing, the crowd are unable to restrain themselves.  One can visualise people joining in and swelling the numbers as the procession presses on

As we come to another Palm Sunday we are reminded of Jesus great entry to Jerusalem that aroused great excitement and rejoicing in the city. So another year, another Palm Sunday, when we can join our brothers and sisters around the world as we rejoice and praise God our King and Saviour.
