Ascension : The Ascension Island Historical Society
Submitted by The Islander (Raymond Ellick) 21.09.2006 (Article Archived on 05.10.2006)

On Thursday 22nd September 1966, the inaugural Meeting of the Ascension Historical Society was held, at the Island Club, Georgetown.

The Chairman was Wing Commander K.H. Pickup.

40 years on the name may have changed to the Ascension Island Heritage Society, but the present members would like to thank the foresight of the founding members for rescuing and preserving the Island’s history and heritage for future generations.

We would like to thank the past, the present and the future members for all their help, interest and knowledge and will ensure that the heritage of Ascension will continue to grow for visitors and residence’s old and young for many years to come.

We will be celebrating this occasion in the Museum on Saturday 23rd September 2006 during opening hours between 11 am – 1 pm and also in the evening after the Hash from 6 pm – 8 pm.  Please do come along and join us.
