Ascension : News From St Marys Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 29.06.2006 (Article Archived on 13.07.2006)

Dear All, Looking through the Visitor's Book in St. Mary's Church I came across this entry by Colin Kay from the Gold Rover when the navy visited Ascension recently.

The message read "Safe passage to all on the seas, God bless".   What a wonderful message Colin has left behind for all to see.

In the Gospel for last Sunday we were told about the frightened disciples who were unable to cope on their own when they had to deal with a terrible storm.  All their expectations of a calm and safe passage across the Lake were suddenly disrupted but Jesus was there and responded to their cry for help. He spoke to the wind and calm was again restored.

We all encounter storms of one kind or another during the course of our lives.  At times we may feel that we are unable to cope because of the inadequate resources that are available to us.  But like the disciples we can call on Jesus, who is travelling with us, to help us through the storm when we are unable to manage on our own.

Have a pleasant and enjoyable week.

Canon Clive.
