Ascension : 9 Scouts gain their Chief Scouts` Gold Award
Submitted by The Islander (Nathan Prince) 29.06.2006 (Article Archived on 13.07.2006)

Shonray Phillips, Clayton Benjamin, Nathan Fowler, Ryan Knipe, Jaylee Crowie, Richard Henry, Angelo Moyce, Ricco Williams and Alex Thomas

Were all presented with their awards by the Island Administrator, Mr. Michael Hill, at the Queen`s Birthday Reception at the Residency on Saturday 17th June.

The Chief Scouts` Gold Award is the highest award that a Scout can achieve in the Troop. The recipient has to achieved proficiency in a variety of life skills gained over several years, ranging through:-

Scoutcraft – camping, cooking, ropework, axemanship, pioneering etc

Adventure – canoeing, climbing and abseiling, caving, etc

Fitness – games, hiking etc

Community Service – path clearing, beach clean ups etc

International / Culture and Leadership

All have taken on responsibility in the Troop as Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders – roles that have been very important especially when on their recent International trips to Northern Ireland and Switzerland.

Most recently they have completed their Expedition section, planning and executing an overnight expedition, camping outdoors for several days and hiking at least 4 hours per day.

As with previous Chief Scouts, these guys have completed sections of the award, in many cases several times over and we are very proud to see them finally gain their awards.
