Ascension : Works and Services Manager - Works and Services Department

The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit a dynamic professional/technical person to fill the post of Works and Services Manager. The principal job purpose is to assist the Director of Technical Services (DTS) in the running of the Works & Services Department (W&S).

The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit a dynamic professional/technical person to fill the post of Works and Services Manager. The principal job purpose is to assist the Director of Technical Services (DTS) in the running of the Works & Services Department (W&S).

Duties of the post include:

  • Assist the DTS in planning and managing the day-to-day activities of the W&S. 
  • Work with: DTS, Technical Staff, Foremen and Stores Supervisor and assist with planning and managing works for AIG’s and customers’ built estate and grounds.
  • Provide in-house mechanical and electrical (M&E) expertise and design capability for W&S. 
  • Support the DTS with construction related regulatory compliance and Health and Safety within W&S and AIG as required.
  • Deputise for the DTS as and when required.

The successful candidate will be an M&E Engineer qualified to NVQ level 3 or equivalent with design capability. The candidate should have a minimum of five years experience working at a senior level in an equal opportunities Works Department with a sizeable multi-skilled workforce and planning their deployment. A proven track record is as important as formal qualifications (but at least the minimum qualification level to do the job must have been attained). The candidate must be computer literate and have a good appreciation of Quality Assurance matters.

The salary offered will be £25-30k, dependant on experience, plus local benefits. These include use of a car and furnished accommodation.  The package is subject to local tax.

A 1-2 year contract will be offered and the successful candidate will be expected to take up post in July or August 2006.
