Ascension : ASCENSION ISLAND GOVERNMENT - PUBLIC NOTICE
Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 25.05.2006 (Article Archived on 15.06.2006)

Many will have noticed that the Hobby Park lacks proper control it has becoming untidy, unsightly, potentially dangerous to visitors, a fire risk, a place where refuse is dumped and possibly the source of pollution.

One Boat Hobby Park, Requirement for Registration.

Many will have noticed that the Hobby Park lacks proper control it has becoming untidy, unsightly, potentially dangerous to visitors, a fire risk, a place where refuse is dumped and possibly the source of pollution. It has expanded in area considerably since March 2005. It has now spread over part of an area controlled by another user. To ensure the Hobby Park continues to meet its primary purpose, which is to be a community amenity, AIG clearly has an obligation to establish a proper administrative regime for it.

The current Register of people occupying cabins and containers etc at the Hobby Park is out of date. It is believed that many people on the existing register may have left the island.

To help update the Register could those who currently have a cabin or container other storage facility or have other things on the site please contact:

Works & Services Department, Technical Services Office,
Georgetown, Ascension Island, South Atlantic,
ASCN 1ZZ.
Tel: 00 247 6346,
e-mail: patrick.benjamin@ascension.gov.ac

Please give details of the number of cabins/containers etc stored or used and if known, the cabin/container number and/or location.

Cabins/containers etc stored at the Hobby Park or within its currently enlarged area, must be registered/re-registered by Friday the 2nd June 2006. Any cabins/containers that have not been registered by then will be presumed to have been abandoned. AIG will have then have the right to advertise these cabins/containers or things for a new occupancy or disposal of them including their contents.

This advertisement will be repeated at fortnightly intervals on Ascension Island and in St Helena until the registration period is over.

There is no intention to introduce a charge for the cabins/containers. This exercise is simply to update the records and to help ensure a clean and safe environment within the confines of the Hobby Park.

Michael Hill, Administrator.
