Ascension : News From St. Mary's
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 27.04.2006 (Article Archived on 11.05.2006)

Our second fund raiser for the Ascension Day Fair was the dance at the Two Boats Club on Saturday evening

Dear Friends,

Our second fund raiser for the Ascension Day Fair was the dance at the Two Boats Club on Saturday evening.  As Chairman I  thank my Committee  members for arranging this event and others who were involved  prior to and on the evening.  We are most grateful to the Management of the Two Boats Club for the use of the Club Hall.

It was very disappointing that only a small number of people turned up for the Divine Service  and the Annual Vestry Meeting on Sunday morning which meant that we were unable to go ahead with the  Meeting as planned to take place during the service.

I am aware, however,  that several people were approached to stand for Council but the response has not been encouraging.  No doubt you will recall that we were in a similar situation two years ago but did eventually managed to get a Council formed after a second attempt.  I am, therefore, making an appeal once again to the people of this Parish, over the next few days, to encourage anyone  who is eligible to serve on Council, to seriously consider putting their names forward for nomination in time for the Vestry Meeting which I propose to have on Sunday 7 May at 10.30 am.  Please feel free to come and discuss with me any point relating to the election of Church Officers.

I trust that you will respond positively to God's call to serve him in this place.

Love and Prayers.

Canon Clive.
