Ascension : The Cruise Season Continues
Submitted by The Islander (Baz & kaz Prowse) 30.03.2006 (Article Archived on 13.04.2006)

Early last Friday morning the Glasgow registered liner, Hebridean Spirit anchored off Ascension Island

Early last Friday morning the Glasgow registered liner, Hebridean Spirit anchored off Ascension Island bringing with her 40 “guests” as the crew like to call their tourists. By kind permission of the Captain Brian Larcombe a representative from the Islander was invited aboard to see what was on offer to their guests, the Chief Purser Anthony Stevens gave me the grand tour.
This cruise is not like general cruises, as the Ship is themed more like a country hotel, enjoying fine wining and dining, with its grand fire place as the focal point of the lounge bar, the rooms (cabins) are very spacious and well equipped.  The upper deck lounge, is very well presented as a library quiet room with spectacular panoramic views, there is a sculpture given by Princess Anne as a centre piece. Other features included are a gym and a beautician’s, along with the usual sign of the times, an Internet area.

For entertainment, instead of the normal shows there are guest speakers giving talks on various subjects and there is also craft demonstrations where the guests can try their hand. The cruise is an “all inclusive“ trip where everything has been paid for in the price, including the tours when the guests land.
The Hebridean Spirit sails from Ascension to Tenerife where the current guests will disembark, the new guests will arrive and sail into the Mediterranean for the summer tour season. The cruise ship is very popular as Alex informed me that 75% of guests have sailed with the company before.
