1ST ASCENSION GIRLGUIDING REPORTS ON THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE

If anyone passed the “Girls in Blue” on the Traveller’s straight road and up to the Traveller’s Hill camp on Friday 10th Feb they may have wondered if AIG had employed extra staff within their Public Works Dept.  It was not so, the Guides have adopted this road and were doing their good deed.

This is their report:-

We were not impressed with what we found.  The Dolphin Patrol found a painter’s overall, polka dot sheet, pink men’s shirt, tarpaulin and a half bag of self-raising flour!!!  Can you believe it? Like Victor Mildrew would say!!!  We thought the next thing we would find was the person because of all the items we found this person should be half naked!!  It looked like someone was sleeping rough and decided to strip leaving almost everything behind!!!  Included were tons of cans and bottles.  Lions and Pandas Patrols collected bottles and cans along with Snack Bar take-away trays to name a few.

The island clubs have bottled beers and wine coolers imported which, is great to have something cool to soothe the thirst but when bought from the club the punters doesn’t think about the hazard these bottles are causing when people are so inconsiderate and just throw the bottles out through the windows of their vehicles.  We are not putting the blame on the clubs – the bartenders are not responsible for their punters.  Collecting broken bottles are extremely dangerous.  Between our three Patrols we collected 15 bags of litter.

It made us so angry riding on the school bus the following Monday morning and cans and bottles were strewn again on this same road.  How ungrateful these litter louts are????!!!  We the Guides are not formed to be picking up litter after anyone every week, we do have other Guide tasks to be done, so please show some kind of gratitude and you can do this by…………

STOP! YOUR LITTERING – USE THE BINS PROVIDED – TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME -

AND BY DOING ALL OF THIS YOU WILL KEEP YOUR ISLAND CLEAN
