LETTER TO ISLANDER

Dear Editor,

Through your publication I would like to advise that a generous donation was paid to me as Chairman of the Saints Members Club for the children of Ascension Island.

Mr Vlad Newcomer a crew member of the MV Chapman who has now left the island approached me on New Year's Eve in the Saints Club.  He saw many children running around and felt he wanted to give them something as a prize or whatever (his words).  It was not convenient at that particular time to arrange anything, as it was well into the night and everyone, including children were enjoying themselves.

Because Mr Newcomer was leaving the island the following week or so he was keen to make a donation before he left. I suggested he could make a contribution to the fundraising efforts of the children toward the upkeep of the Youth Mini Bus under the control of Guider, Mrs Cheryl Anthony.  Cheryl advised that the annual target of fundraising to meet the running costs of the vehicle is in the region of £800+. Mr Newcomer was more then happy with this and on 10 January brought to me $200.00. Guider, Mrs Betty Joshua was present at the time and witnessed the handing over and she thanked Vlad for his kind gesture which was greatly appreciated. This amount which converted to £112.35  has been paid into the bank account for the vehicle upkeep.

 Yours sincerely

 Iva Henry
