Phew! This last week was very hot and humid, but I do hope you managed to enjoy yourselves wherever your mood took you on this carefree island

Dear Friends,

Phew! This last week was very hot and humid, but I do hope you managed to enjoy yourselves wherever your mood took you on this carefree island.

GOSPEL READING – JESUS TURNING WATER INTO WINE AT A LOCAL WEDDING

Weddings are always something to look forward to – to give us an excuse to wear our best outfit and for all the family and friends to come from far and wide to be together.  We have lots to drink at weddings.  At this particular wedding in Cana Jesus turned water into wine and this just proved the first signs of glory pointing to the divinity of Jesus.  Jesus changed 180 gallons of water into wine.  Wine is after all, hardly essential to life.  In fact if abused it could be damaging to life, especially to anyone who consume 180 gallons of it!!

Jesus did not give this wine to VIP’s but to everyone present – he did not choose.  At some weddings the best wine is served first and the inferior wine kept away until the guests are too merry to notice the difference, but the wine produced by Jesus was of a quality never before experienced.  Jesus poured out top quality wine just as freely as he poured out his blood on the cross for human beings.  Jesus offers the best to everybody, not just to important people.

Points to remember

  1. The first signs to show that Jesus was divine, was helping the party to go with a swing

  2. God delights in the whole of our lives and doesn’t separate us into “sacred” and “Secular”

  3. Jesus will redeem our lives and our disasters, producing from them something rich and amazing

  4. Jesus offers this miracle of change to everybody, not just to “special” people, and welcomes us all at his own wedding feast

  5. All that is requiring of us is to obey him.

NEW LAUNCH – QUEEN ATLANTIS

Queen Atlantis – the new launch of the AIG experienced her first trip around the bay last Tuesday afternoon, with 50 odd passengers on board.  The ceremony was well attended with over 200 spectators.  I had the great opportunity of Blessing her before she was lowered into the sea to make her first sail.  The ride was comfortable and wet-free.  For those of you who are not such good sailors like myself, I can tell you, you have nothing to fear.  The windows and doors are open to give that lovely fresh sea air so you don’t feel claustrophobic.  Although young Alex Augustus did “christened” it in his own way – he became sick just as we were nearing the steps!!!

Well-done to Laura for choosing such an appropriate name for this long awaited launch.

BACK TO REALITY

With Christmas over all family and friends have all returned to St. Helena or the U.K. or back to Ascension, after spending time here or on St. Helena.  Now, it seems like just a dream!!  It is always a pleasure to have love ones with us for a holiday but it’s so sad at the departing.  Our family Mark, Julie, Julian and Danielle were visiting for a short time.  Danielle found it really hard to leave last Thursday evening.  Getting back to the U.K. life once more can be somewhat hard, but I know the memories of her holiday here and on St. Helena will remain with her.  This goes to anyone of us – leaving a place we so love is hard but the memories will be captured forever!

God Bless

Cheryl
