Ascension : Goodbye Ascension
Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 17.02.2005 (Article Archived on 03.03.2005)

We have been here 5 weeks and now its time to return to the UK.

We have been here 5 weeks and now its time to return to the UK. My husband Tony and I have had a marvellous time, thanks to Kimberley and Phil, not forgetting our darling little granddaughter Abigail. They’ve all helped to make our stay unforgettable, we can’t thank them enough.

We will take back treasured memories of this lovely, diverse island, its birds, fish, fauna and of course the beautiful turtles which we have had the privilege to see.

We shall also miss the climate and the lovely views of the mountains around every corner, and of course the peace and quiet. Also the one Hash we went on, even though I fell on my bottom, no harm done (I’m well padded). Sunday afternoon walks will never be the same again.

We may not come back, but we have our photos and videos to look at, and share our memories with our other daughters, Tracey in Australia and Kelly, Simon and granddaughter Freya, when we have dreary days at home.

We look forward to the summer when Kim, Phil and Abigail will be home for their holiday. Although we are leaving we will never forget you Ascension Island!

Shirley & Tony Wyer
