Ascension : Valentine Dance Success! Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 17.02.2005 (Article Archived on 03.03.2005)
After three weeks of planning and organising, the Valentine dance in aid of the Tsunami Relief went off with a bang!

For those of you who thought that £5 and £2 were too expensive for a ticket you lost out on a good night. I would have bought a ticket just to see the decorations!
The night started with a disco for the children, with prize dances and lucky ticket draw prizes being won throughout. I would like to thank Colin P, Alberta, Renee, Andrea B, and Carrie A, for all your good work in keeping the children well entertained, and Clare and Lesley Ann for managing the lucky draw.
The dinner was cooked to perfection, and enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to our cooks, Sylvia H, Angie H, Brian L (Dutch) Georgie J, Peter F and Harold T (Junior), and to Delphia for helping out with the salads.

The main dance with prize dances and lucky ticket draws was enjoyed by all. Thanks to John J for hosting the prize dances! Also thanks to Elaine T and Catherine for doing the lucky draw.
I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart the following people who so willingly gave up their time to support this worthy cause:
Catherine Leo who was a staunch supporter throughout, and is also the treasurer; Marita, Sharon T, Freda, Clare, Angie R, Betty B, Rosie W, Lily A, Nicola D, Betty J, Jacqui E, Pam R, Celia R, Coral W, Joy R, Georgina B, Anita S, Sandra B and Vilma O, for selling tickets at the door.
To Nicky Herne who made 400 cardboard hearts to decorate the hall, and the realistic card plaques for the card dance. They looked splendid and were admired by everyone!
To Catherine, Nicola, Colin P, John, Elaine, Terry, Gary R, Clare, Tich, Bernie and Raxa, for decorating the hall, and to Peter C for cutting and delivering the gingers.
To “Inferno”, Freddy Maggott and Karl & Ben for the Music.
To all who sold tickets or tried to before the big night!
To all who bought tickets and had an enjoyable night out in return!
To Jason Timm for helping to clean up on Sunday morning.
And last but not least a big thank you to all who gave donations to enable us to have an expenses free grand total of £1274.
The above total will be pooled with monies raised from the School fete, to help at least one school which was affected by the Tsunami Disaster.
