Ascension : Letter To The Islander
Submitted by The Islander (Gavin Yon) 03.02.2005 (Article Archived on 17.02.2005)

I would like to say well done to those at Solomon’s Shop Georgetown who were responsible for ordering the fruit, and to those responsible for the storage of the fruit on the last visit of the RMS St Helena.

Dear Sir

PRAISE WHERE IT IS DUE

I would like to say well done to those at Solomon’s Shop Georgetown who were responsible for ordering the fruit, and to those responsible for the storage of the fruit on the last visit of the RMS St Helena.

As you know, the fruit is often transported in a container that is too cold (this impairs the quality of the fruit by the time is reaches Ascension) and there is seldom any “exotic” fruit left by the end of the first day. However not only was there “exotic” good quality fruit left after the first day but on writing this there were still peaches and grapes in the shop!

Well done to all concerned.

Yours faithfully

Bernadette Kettlewell.
