The Ascension Island Government is seeking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following posts:

 

2 x PLANT OPERATORS

The EU Funded Roads Project requires the services of two competent plant operators to perform skilled work operating plant in maintenance, construction, excavation or haulage work as detailed by the Team Leader. Assisting with other roadwork related tasks including manual work will also be a requirement. The successful candidates must be able to work well as a part of a team.

Due to the phased nature of the works and project peaks and troughs, the successful candidates will be required to carry out other duties in building and civil engineering works as and when required.

The successful candidates must have at least 3 years experience as a competent plant operator. A clean, valid driving licence for vehicles of classes A to J is essential. They should also have a working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work and good communication skills.

Preference will be given to those candidates who can competently operate two or more of the following, a lorry, a roller, a JCB excavator or a tracked vehicle.

 

2 x GENERAL OPERATIVES

Also required are the services of two persons to assist tradesmen with maintenance and accommodation services general duties, such as refuse collection and disposal, cleaning and sweeping – public toilets, carpentry, plumbing, painting, gardening – cutting lawns, planting and pruning and any other duties that may be required by the Team Leader. The successful candidates may also be required to work on roads maintenance.

 

Please note that stevedore duties (Shipping Duties) will be a core function for the above posts.

 

The posts are for one year only and are offered on household (only suitable for persons living on Ascension who are already members of another person’s household that provides accommodation and allowances) or single status terms. The successful candidates might also be expected to share a house (two persons) as part of the accommodation arrangements.

Salaries for the above posts will fall within Grade 4 (£7,148 - £10,722 per annum) and will depend upon qualifications and experience. Persons engaged on single status will also receive a food allowance of £2,825 per annum.
