GCSE Examinations

GCSE Examinations finished yesterday (Tuesday) and all of our Year 11 students completed all exams for which they were entered.  Once again the administration of the examinations, managed by Mrs Maggott, went off without a hitch and the students now have a long wait before learning their results.  The Art and English results will be available on 9th August and results for other subjects will not be available until 26th August.

Further Education Students

Subject to their performance in the GCSE examinations two students, Kirsty Anthony and Kassie Duncan, will be funded by the Government to complete a two year ‘A’ Level course in the UK at Chichester College.  The five students already at Chichester will complete the first year of their course this week and are due back for the holiday on 2nd July.

Work Experience

Our Year 10 students are preparing to undertake their three week work experience programme starting on 12th July.  They will be completing placements with Cable and Wireless, VT Merlin, Serco, RAF, CSR and the Government.  Other organisations including Turners and CSO also offered placements.  I am grateful to all of the employers for co-operating so readily with this programme.

Leavers’ Assembly

We will be holding our annual Leavers’ Assembly at school on Friday 2nd July 2004 and as well as presenting Records of Achievement to our Year 11 leavers we will be presenting annual awards to others.  I am particarly pleased to acknowledge the generosity of Serco and Dr Shub and Raxa for donating two awards for competition this year.  The Serco trophy for Progress will be awarded to the pupil in the Primary School who, in the opinion of teachers, has made the most progress over the year.  Dr Shub and Raxa’s award will be to the person who has performed best in Spanish over the year.

The assembly will take place at 11.30am and any member of the community wishing to attend will be welcome.

Splash Gala

Last Thursday the Lower School enjoyed their annual Splash Gala at Georgetown Pool.  It was a very enjoyable event and every child in the Lower School participated.  Competition was keen and the Gala was won by Connelly with 54 points from Beale with 52 points and Huxley with 33 points.

The ribbons won by the pupils were presented to them at a short assembly last Friday.
