Ascension : Church News
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 01.07.2004 (Article Archived on 15.07.2004)

The new Church Council met last Monday evening, this being their first meeting since their election.

Dear Friends,

The new Church Council met last Monday evening, this being their first meeting since their election.  One of the main items of business was that of finances. It was decided that a special meeting be convened as soon as possible when the Council will look at other ways of raising funds throughout the year, in addition to the main annual event, Ascension Day Fair. As you are aware the Church on Ascension Island is self supporting and serious thought must therefore be given as to how funds are raised to support the Church in the future.

It has been suggested that on the first Sunday of each month fellowship after the service should be in the Church and not in the Vicarage.  It is hoped that this change, which will be effective from this coming Sunday, will encourage more members of the congregation to join in.

Our Churchwarden, Cheryl, will  be leaving us this week end.  We hope that you will have a relaxing holiday on St. Helena and see you and your family back here in a few months time.

ADF T Shirts are still on sale at the Vicarage.  Various adult sizes £5 each and children's £3.50.

Have a pleasant week.

Canon Clive.

Readings for this Sunday 4 July: 2 Kings 21: 1-21,  Galatians 6: 7-18 and Luke 10: 1-12 & 17-20.
