Past Week’s Weather

UK

A slow-moving area of low pressure became centred over the UK by Wednesday, producing cool conditions with heavy, thundery showers (locally wintry on Scottish mountains) and occasional longer spells of rain.

Falklands

An unsettled week, with strong to gale force winds and showers or longer periods of rain. From Friday, it turned significantly colder with strong winds and moderate or heavy snow showers, locally with hail and thunder.

Ascension

Much of the week was dry with little cloud, but it turned cloudier over the weekend with occasional slight, locally moderate, showers – mainly during the evenings.

St. Helena

A fairly cloudy week, with scattered mainly light showers. By the weekend, the showers had dispersed and breaks in the cloud allowed for some lengthy sunny spells.

A wet April for the UK

After a warm and dry March and much of southern England being declared in a state of drought, the weather in April has resolved to restore the water levels to healthy levels.

A succession of low pressure systems moving across the UK, has produced lengthy spells of rain interspersed with some heavy, thundery showers. Waddington in Lincolnshire has recorded 100.8mm of rain (216% of its average April rainfall) so far this month, with over a week of April left!

With temperatures struggling to get into double figures for much of the month, it really has been miserable for anyone wanting to do outdoor activities. And the hosepipe bans remain for the time being, as if anyone needs to water their lawns at the moment!
