Ascension : St Mary's Church
Submitted by The Islander (Clive & Jenny Duncan) 10.06.2004 (Article Archived on 24.06.2004)

I guess a number of you spent some time to view the very moving service on the TV last Sunday Morning which marked the 60th anniversary of the D Day landings in Normandy.

Dear Friends,

I guess a number of you spent some time to view the very moving service on the TV last Sunday Morning which marked the 60th anniversary of the D Day landings in Normandy.  Here on Ascension Island a Service of Thanksgiving was held in St. Mary's Church which I am pleased to say was well attended.

We welcome this week a visit by Frank Molteno the HIV/Aids Programme Manager.  By the time you receive this edition of "The Islander" he will already have met a number of people socially and through the public meetings that had been arranged. Frank will depart Ascension Island on Thursday evening for the UK, where he will be attending a number of meetings before returning to Capetown.  We wish him well with his future work as Programme Manager.

This coming Sunday we will be having a 'Songs of Praise' in St. Mary's at 7 p.m.  We trust that you will be able to attend this act of worship as this will be Ricky's last appearance in our band before leaving for the UK at the end of this month. We shall miss Ricky, but one never knows, he might just return one day and help us out again.  Thank you for all you have done for us which is much appreciated.  May God continue to bless you with your future plans.

Readings for this Sunday:     1 Kings, Chap. 19 verses 1-8

                                                  Galatians 2: 15-21

                                                  Luke 7: 36-8:3.

Have a pleasant week.
Canon Clive.
